COVID-19 Update NEW RESTRICTIONS

New COVID-19 Mitigation Measures Affect
Associations in Cook and Collar Counties

Due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Illinois, new mitigation measures have been implemented in many areas of the state, including all of Cook County, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, Lake, McHenry, and Will Counties. The new restrictions affect community associations as they limit gatherings to 25 people or 25% of the space’s capacity, whichever is less. In addition, community associations in the City of Chicago are prohibited from having gatherings of more than six individuals in any residence. Hence, associations that have opened amenities and facilities such as fitness centers, conference rooms, party rooms and the like will need to adjust their policies to comply with these reduced capacity limitations. Notices should be posted in the common areas to identify the new gathering limitations, while reminding association members (and their guests) to wear their masks and practice social distancing within the common areas, while regularly washing their hands. The new restrictions will be in place in all affected counties by Saturday.

Our attorneys remain available to meet (via videoconference) or otherwise discuss the action that Boards can and should take with respect to association matters (meetings, elections, rule violations, etc.) during this unprecedented and difficult time. We will continue to keep you advised of new developments as they arise.
